Factors Influencing Compressive Strength of Glass Ionomer Cement

This research aims to develop glass ionomer cement for dental application. Several factors that possibly affect the mechanical properties of our developed glass ionomer cements were studied. Developed cements were investigated for their compressive strength according to ISO 9917-1:2007 in comparison with the commercial glass ionomer cement. The different particle sizes and pre-cementation of glass powder showed insignificant change in cement strength, whereas fluorocomplex salt incorporation led to a slightly increased strength. The higher AA/IA molar ratio, molar mass and concentration of copolyacid liquid resulted in the higher strength of hardened cements.
